Alternative Varieties Seminar

Part-owner Andrew Corrigan MW hosted his quarterly Granite Belt winemakers seminar at our cellar door last month.

The seminar brought together a fun group of Granite Belt winemakers and producers keen on exploring, discussing and comparing wines relevant to the local terroir, with the theme 'Emerging Varieties from Italy and Spain'

We think Queensland wine is the best, but we also think its important to keep comparing, researching and tasting varieties from around the globe!

The August tasting included emerging new varieties such as:

  • Grillo from Sicily
  • Fiano from Berton Vineyards, Riverina,
  • Pinot Nero from Trentino, Teroldago from Trentino,
  • Primitivo (Zinfandel) from Salento (the Puglia Peninsula),
  • Rondinella from the Freeman Vineyard in the Hilltops NSW,
  • Zweigelt from Hahndorf Hill, Adelaide Hills (which is an Austrian variety),

Mencia from Ribeira, Spain and several Grenache Tempranillo reds from Rioja, Spain and Canberra
