Back in early 2008, together with my wife Leanne, we moved to the Granite Belt from Brisbane, to further establish myself as a winemaker. I landed a job at Hidden Creek Winery with Jim Barnes, and besides a quick vintage at Cloudy Bay New Zealand, remained at Hidden Creek until 2012.

A short stint as winemaker at Harrington Glen Estate and Summit Wines, both on the Granite Belt, was interrupted with a new opportunity. Previous winemaker and manager Jim Barnes had decided to move into retirement, so the opportunity arose to take over the winemaking at Hidden Creek post Vintage 2016

Leanne and I are the new team at Hidden Creek Winery Café & Vineyard, together with Pepper the winery dog.

So for those wanting to know a little bit about me, I used to chase villains in my previous employment with the QLD Police Service. Now I am an award winning Winemaker who holds a bachelor degree in Science (Wine Science) from Charles Sturt University. I hold the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Intermediate and Advanced certificates in wines and spirits. I actively contribute to the local community and have supported the Granite Belt Wine region in QLD through my volunteer involvement as Past President of the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society. I am also the Past President of the Australian Small Winemakers Show, Australia’s largest inland wine show.

Leanne is Business Manager and holds a bachelor degree in Commerce (majors in applied economics and information systems analysis and management science). She has also worked at several local cellar doors, and runs two other businesses behind the scenes.

So a new chapter of Hidden Creek has begun.

We have only been up and running 3 short months, and have received so much praise and positive feedback. The Café is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday each week, and serves meals sourced from local produce. We will soon have a new wine club up and running offering substantial discounts and special offers to loyal customers.
